To fulfill the mission of neighbors helping neighbors, South Plains Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up Board of Directors created a community grant program to better help local non-profit organizations.

Thanks to contributions made by cooperative members, Operation Round Up awarded $24,000 in grants to 19 local non-profit organizations.

Childress Women’s League was a recipient of an Operation Round Up Community Grant. CWL is an organization dedicated to the service of others. Through their endless generosity, compassion, and empathy, CWL has been able to provide to those less fortunate and ensure that no helpless soul experiences extreme hunger.

The grant money CWL received was used to benefit their Backpack Program. As a result of this program, families get to take a backpack home weekly that is stocked with food to feed the entire family for the weekend. As the poverty level continues to rise, more and more families fall to the mercy of hunger. The Backpack Program has made an enormous difference in the community of Childress and will continue to persevere in order to meet its growing hunger needs.
