Concern for Community is one of the Seven Cooperative Principles guiding South Plains Electric Cooperative. Giving back to our community gives our Cooperative the opportunity to support community efforts that enhance the quality of life for members and their families. Operation Round Up helps provide funding for community members in need.
Operation Round Up is funded by Cooperative members rounding their bill up to the nearest dollar.
Early Learning Center, used their grant to purchase three Knox Boxes for their main office, Guadalupe and Carver Early Learning Centers to meet fire marshal guidelines. Because of the grant, ELC did not have to reduce the number of scholarships to the families and are able to continue providing high quality childcare services to families trying to become self-sufficient.
Shallowater PTO, was able to provide free meals and snacks to students and their families during the Shallowater Elementary “Reading Under the Lights” event. Offering meals at no cost removed financial barriers and allowed all families—regardless of income—to attend and fully participate. The free meals and snacks helped create a welcoming, inclusive environment that encouraged families to stay for the entire evening, engage in literacy activities and build stronger connections with the school community.
South Plains Precision Shooters, used their grant to purchase scoring software, targets, scanner and a printer for the SPPS club athletes as well as the Lubbock County 4-H rifle participants. As a result, SPPS was able to score and analyze their youth shooters’ targets, finding patterns and places for improvement.
Refuge Services, used their grant to support professional farrier care to their therapy horse herd. This care ensured consistent hoof maintenance, corrective trimming and specialized care for their horses. With the grant funds, Refuge Services was able to maintain uninterrupted therapy services for approximately 170 clients per week, including children with physical and developmental challenges, military veterans coping with PTSD and trauma, families and individuals with mental health needs.
Frenship Band Boosters, used their grant funds to go toward the purchase of a new truck. Purchasing this truck allowed their organization to continue helping band students by being able to haul equipment, show props and instruments to games and competitions.
